- Resilience Theory
-
Resilience theory attempts to explain how and why people are able to overcome sometimes significant challenges to achieve positive outcomes. It posits that an individual’s ability to cope is a function of the ratio of protective factors to risk factors present in one’s life. Resilience theory lends support to strengths-based approaches that focus on building or reinforcing protective factors to help youth succeed in school and beyond.
