- Buying Power
-
Buying power refers to the amount of goods and services you can buy with your income. The buying power of a fixed sum of money diminishes under conditions of inflation and increases under conditions of deflation – or it would increase if we ever experienced deflation! Since inflation in the United States typically runs about three to four percent annually, your income must increase by three to four percent a year just so your buying power can remain constant.
